"VALUING WATER: A New Deal for the Environment"

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18, 2018, 7 PM, at Robert H. Jackson Center: RHJC presents "Valueing Water: A New Deal for the Environment."

The Jackson Center’s 2018 project will focus on how environmental economists determine the economic value of water and the legal precedents and legislation that have shaped current water policies.  The project title is a nod to Robert H. Jackson’s significant involvement with President Franklin Roosevelt’s efforts to create "New Deal" programs in the 1930's that helped the country recover from the economic problems of the Great Depression. Just as the New Deal restored economic viability in the U.S., a better understanding of the complete cost of natural resources, beyond what is visible in the marketplace, will enable communities to make more informed and cost-effective decisions.
